Was craving Thai food and decided to ride over to Thai Moon for dinner. The food here is authentically Thai cuisine and just delicious! WARNING: Thai Moon is carry out orders only & cash only so come prepared. This is a SMALL business so be specific with your pick up time and don't expect to be chatting up a storm with the staff here when picking up your food. They are working as fast as they can to get fresh food out and take orders. Please be mindful of this. All orders on the menu are custom made to your spice level from mild to Thai level hot. MOON EGG ROLLS These egg rolls were so deliciously fresh and crunchy. Every bite was full of minced pork, shredded carrots, cabbage and vermicelli. Dipped with their homemade sweet chili sauce, just divine! SHRIMP SPRING ROLLS Rice paper rolled with vermicelli, fresh greens, carrots, cilantro, and shrimp. Dip into the housemate peanut sauce for the best bite. Every bite was so crunchy and fresh, just delicious. The rolls were rolled nice and tight, zero spillage. Very impressed with how stuffed these were. So yummy. DRUNKEN NOODLES We got a medium heat and Thai level hot. Oh my lord these were tasty! We chose chicken for our protein. I love drunken noodles and Thai Moon's style is veggie and flavor heavy, just how I like it. Chewy, flat rice noodles, onions, tomatoes, chilis, garlic and fresh basil leaves; every bite was just an explosion of saucy flavors and textures. In hindsight, we should've just gotten medium because the Thai level one had us SWEATING and chugging our drinks. Delicious nonetheless, but note to self stick with medium if you like spicy, but want to enjoy your meal. Portions are generous, so you'll have enough for leftovers to enjoy the next day. Love the Thai food here, highly recommend!
Best Thai food I've ever had, the owner was the only one working tonight and they do prefer you pay with cash and call ahead. I saw many complaints about the staff not being friendly; however, she was plenty friendly to me, even when I arrived at the wrong time to pick up my food. Being a business owner myself, pick up times and schedules are important, so I get it. I got egg rolls and pad see eiw and it was so flavorful and the eggrolls weren't greasy at all and the veggies inside tasted so fresh. Highly recommend this place for delicious take out while visiting Ocracoke.
This place could easily be 5 stars, but for the complete lack of friendly staff on our two interactions with them. No smiles. No hospitality. Zero warmth. Zero. That being said, the food is excellent and worth overlooking the lack of people skills. Cash only establishment and they prefer you call ahead for everything. Walk-ins appear to be welcomed only for lunch, not dinner. This is not an eat-in destination, for sure. Again, for Thai food on an island on the OBX, this place is excellent.
Thai Moon is authentic and delicious Thai cuisine! Moon operates for carry out orders only & only accepts cash, so come prepared. All orders are custom prepared to meet your desired spicyness...from mild to Thai hot! Moon is still recovering from the impact of COVID. Staffing has been an issue like it is everywhere. She prepares all orders herself, so call between 11-3 the day before to place your order for a specific pick up time. We scheduled a 4:30 pick up, so we could enjoy our meal on the 2hr Cedar Ferry ride back to the mainland. The Thai Spring rolls and Moon egg rolls didn't disappoint! Both were delicious with Moon's homemade sweet chili sauce. Pad Thai with shrimp or chicken were a hit too! I ordered my drunken chicken noodles with medium heat, and it was a bowl full of deliciousness! Portions are generous, so you'll have enough to enjoy the next day too! Thai Moon definitely deserves a dedicated night while you're vacationing in Ocracoke!
We have been coming to Thai moon each year for close to a decade. This is a family run operation which now seems to be a single person show according to their Facebook. Food is fantastic even after the hour+ travel time off the island. Our family normally gets the curry but their pad Thai is excellent as well. The people complaining about the food frankly have a stick up their a$$. And yes, the food may not be basement bargain prices but you are on an island on vacation ordering from the one Thai spot in town, if you are mad about that I don't know what to tell you. Can't recommend enough. Also, the heat of this food is no joke - be careful ordering things above medium espically if your plan on adding chili flakes or sauce.
